30 Bible Verses About Loneliness
Scripture to Comfort You When You Feel Alone
Loneliness is one of those things that almost everyone experiences but very few people talk about openly. You can be surrounded by people and still feel completely alone. You can have a full calendar, a busy life, and still lie awake at night wondering if anyone truly sees you.
If that is where you are right now, I want you to know something: God is not distant from your pain. He is not indifferent to your loneliness. In fact, the Bible is filled with words that speak directly into those quiet, aching moments when you feel forgotten or left behind.
These 30 verses are not just words on a page. They are promises from a God who knows you by name, who sees every tear, and who has committed Himself to being with you through every season of life. Whether you are going through loss, transition, heartbreak, or simply a season where connection feels hard to find, these scriptures are here to remind you: you are never truly alone.
1. Isaiah 41:10
“Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”
When loneliness tells you that you are on your own, God says the exact opposite. He is not watching from a distance. He is with you, strengthening you, holding you up. Whatever you are walking through right now, you are not carrying it alone.
2. Hebrews 13:5
“I will never leave you nor forsake you.”
People come and go. Seasons change. Friendships shift. But God has made a promise that He will never walk away from you. Not on your worst day. Not when you feel invisible. He stays.
3. Psalm 34:18
“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.”
If your heart is broken right now, you need to hear this: God draws closer to you in your pain, not further away. He does not avoid people who are hurting. He moves toward them.

4. Joshua 1:9
“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”
God spoke these words to Joshua at one of the most uncertain moments of his life. And He speaks them to you too. Wherever loneliness follows you, God is already there.
5. Matthew 28:20
“And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
These are the final words Jesus spoke before ascending to heaven. He could have said anything. He chose to remind us: I am with you. Always. That is not a throwaway line. That is a promise meant to carry you through every lonely night.
6. Psalm 25:16-18 (NIV)
“Turn to me and be gracious to me, for I am lonely and afflicted. Relieve the troubles of my heart and free me from my anguish.”
David was honest enough to tell God exactly how he felt. You can be too. God is not bothered by your honesty. He invites it. If you are lonely and hurting, say it. He is listening.
7. Deuteronomy 31:8 (NIV)
“The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.”
God does not just walk beside you. He goes ahead of you. Whatever you are about to face, He has already been there. That changes everything about how we step into uncertain seasons.
8. Psalm 23:4 (NIV)
“Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.”
The valley is real. The darkness is real. But so is the Shepherd walking with you through it. David did not say God removes the valley. He said God is present in the middle of it.
9. Psalm 27:10 (ESV)
“For my father and my mother have forsaken me, but the Lord will take me in.”
Some of the deepest loneliness comes from the people who were supposed to stay. If you have been let down by those closest to you, God says He will take you in. You still belong somewhere.
10. Romans 8:38-39 (NIV)
“For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Nothing can cut you off from God’s love. Not your mistakes, not your past, not the walls you have built around yourself. His love reaches further than your loneliness ever could.

11. Psalm 68:6 (NIV)
“God sets the lonely in families, he leads out the prisoners with singing; but the rebellious live in a sun-scorched land.”
God sees your loneliness and responds by placing you in community. Sometimes that family is biological. Sometimes it is the church. Either way, He does not intend for you to walk through life alone.
12. Psalm 147:3 (NIV)
“He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.”
Healing does not always happen overnight, but it does happen. God is gentle with broken hearts. He does not rush you. He binds your wounds with patience and care.
13. John 14:18 (NIV)
“I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you.”
Jesus knew His disciples would feel abandoned after He left. So He made them this promise. And it extends to every one of us. You have not been left behind. He is coming to you.
14. 1 Peter 5:7 (NIV)
“Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.”
Loneliness often brings anxiety with it. The worry that nobody cares, that things will never change. God says: give Me all of it. Not because it is too small to matter, but because you matter too much to carry it alone.
15. Psalm 46:1 (NIV)
“God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.”
Ever-present. That means there has never been a moment when God was not available to you. He does not go off duty. He is your refuge right now, in this very moment.
16. Isaiah 49:15-16 (NIV)
“Can a mother forget the baby at her breast and have no compassion on the child she has borne? Though she may forget, I will not forget you! See, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands.”
God compares His love to the strongest human bond we know, and then says His is even stronger. You are literally written on His hands. He could not forget you even if He tried.
17. Psalm 139:7-10 (NIV)
“Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence? If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there.”
There is no place so dark or so far away that God cannot reach you there. You cannot outrun His presence. Even when loneliness convinces you that nobody knows where you are, God does.
18. 2 Timothy 4:16-17 (NIV)
“At my first defense, no one came to my support, but everyone deserted me. May it not be held against them. But the Lord stood at my side and gave me strength.”
Paul knew what it was like to be abandoned by people he counted on. And yet he found that the Lord stood at his side. When the crowd disappears, Christ remains.
19. Psalm 73:23 (NIV)
“Yet I am always with you; you hold me by my right hand.”
Picture a child reaching up for their parent’s hand. That is the image here. God is holding you. Not loosely, not reluctantly, but firmly. He has got you.
20. Matthew 11:28 (NIV)
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”
Loneliness is exhausting. It wears you out in ways that are hard to explain to other people. Jesus sees that tiredness and says: come. Not perform. Not earn it. Just come.
21. Zephaniah 3:17 (NIV)
“The Lord your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves. He will take great delight in you; in his love he will no longer rebuke you, but will rejoice over you with singing.”
God is not just tolerating your presence. He delights in you. He rejoices over you. The Creator of the universe sings over you. Let that sink in the next time loneliness whispers that you are not enough.
22. Psalm 16:11 (ESV)
“You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.”
True fullness is found in God’s presence. Not in popularity, not in a packed schedule, but in Him. When you turn toward God in your lonely moments, you are turning toward joy itself.
23. Lamentations 3:22-23 (NIV)
“Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, because his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.”
Every morning is a fresh start. Whatever yesterday looked like, today God’s compassion is new. His faithfulness does not depend on how you feel. It depends on who He is.
24. John 16:32 (NIV)
“A time is coming and in fact has come when you will be scattered, each to your own home. You will leave me all alone. Yet I am not alone, for my Father is with me.”
Even Jesus experienced the loneliness of being left by those closest to Him. But He held onto this truth: the Father was with Him. If Jesus leaned on the Father’s presence, so can we.
25. Psalm 62:1-2 (NIV)
“Truly my soul finds rest in God; my salvation comes from him. Truly he is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will never be shaken.”
When everything around you feels unstable, God is your solid ground. He is the one place where your soul can actually rest. Not strive, not perform. Just rest.

26. Isaiah 43:2 (NIV)
“When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you.”
God does not promise that life will be easy. But He promises that the hard things will not destroy you because He is with you in them. The waters may rise, but they will not sweep you away.
27. Philippians 4:19 (NIV)
“And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus.”
Loneliness often makes us feel like something is missing. God promises to meet your needs, including the need to be known, seen, and loved. He does not overlook any part of your heart.
28. Psalm 42:11 (NIV)
“Why, my soul, are you downcast? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God.”
The psalmist talks to his own soul. Sometimes you need to remind yourself of what is true, even when your emotions say otherwise. Hope in God. You will praise Him again.
29. Genesis 28:15 (NIV)
“I am with you and will watch over you wherever you go, and I will bring you back to this land. I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you.”
God spoke this to Jacob when he was running, afraid, and completely alone. And God met him right there. No matter how far you have wandered, God has not left your side.
30. Psalm 91:1-2 (NIV)
“Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, ‘He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.'”
There is a shelter available to you right now. Not a physical building, but the presence of God Himself. When loneliness leaves you feeling exposed and vulnerable, He is your hiding place. You can trust Him with everything you are carrying.
A Word of Encouragement
If you have read through these verses and something stirred inside you, hold onto that. That is not just emotion. That is the Spirit of God reminding you that you belong to Him.
Loneliness is a season, not a sentence. It does not define you, and it does not have the final word over your life. God is doing something even in the waiting, even in the silence, even when it feels like nothing is happening.
If you are walking through a particularly heavy time, please do not try to carry it alone. Reach out to someone you trust. Talk to a pastor, a friend, a family member. And keep returning to these scriptures. Write them down. Speak them out loud. Let them settle into the deepest parts of your heart.
God is with you. He has always been with you. And He is not going anywhere.
