A Rich Connection with Avro Aerospace

Christ Church Woodford has a long and meaningful association with Avro Aerospace, reflecting the area’s proud aviation heritage.

One of our former ministers, Rev’d Howard Barker, served for many years as chaplain to the aerospace community.

Within our churchyard, several notable figures from Avro are laid to rest, including:

  • Sir Roy Dobson
  • Roy Chadwick
  • Sidney Thorn
  • S/L David Wilson
  • Fred Bassett (whose headstone features two Vulcan aircraft)
  • Kevin Moorhouse

Their legacy forms an important part of both our church history and the wider story of British aviation.
